Network

In Guernsey and Alderney Network is available to male and females between 18 to 25 years old who want to take part in the Scouting adventure

As all members of the Network are over the age of 18, there are special allowances in the association’s rules that make it easier for them to undertake adventurous activities. Scouting offers challenge, achievement and recognition for young people and will get the chance to improve their teamwork, leadership skills and develop their CV.

Members of Network follow a balanced programme of activities, including self development areas and methods:

PROGRAMME ZONES:

  • International
  • Community
  • Skills & development

METHODS:

  • Having fun
  • Personal development
  • The promise
  • Taking responsibility
  • Activities
  • Getting on with others
  • Working together

Scouting has a reputation as an outdoor organisation based on strong traditions of camping and other outdoor persuits. Members of the Network have the opportunity to camp and go away on expeditions that will challenge and test them. These are an essential theme of Scouting and a good opportunity for them to organise activities and stretch their limits.

Members of the Scout Network can also undertake another role within Scouting e.g. a Leader with another Section, a helper of Skills Instructor, a member of the Scout active support, a member in another capacity.

Scout Network meet together at their Headquarters ‘The Shop’, at Les Maingy Scout and Guide Headquarters.

Members of Network wear a khaki colour shirt. They also wear a neckerchief (scarf) and a leather woggle (which keeps their scarf together).

By making the promise, an important act in Scouting and common to every section, a young person becomes a Member of the worldwide Movement:

The Scout Promise is:

ON MY HONOUR,
I PROMISE THAT I WILL DO MY BEST,
TO DO MY DUTY TO GOD AND TO THE QUEEN,
TO HELP OTHER PEOPLE
AND TO KEEP THE SCOUT LAW.

The Scout Law is:

  • A SCOUT IS TO BE TRUSTED

  • A SCOUT IS LOYAL

  • A SCOUT IS FRIENDLY AND CONSIDERATE

  • A SCOUT BELONGS TO THE WORLDWIDE FAMILY OF SCOUTS

  • A SCOUT HAS COURAGE IN ALL DIFFICULTIES

  • A SCOUT MAKES CAREFUL USE OF TIME AND IS CAREFUL OF POSSESSIONS AND PROPERTY

  • A SCOUT HAS SELF-RESPECT AND RESPECT FOR OTHERS

The Motto for all members of the movement is:

BE PREPARED.
