Explorer Scouts follow a balanced programme, giving young people an opportunity to personally develop in all areas of learning. This is achieved by taking part in a balanced programme divided into:

PROGRAMME ZONES:

  • Outdoor & Adventure
  • Values & Relationships
  • Community service
  • Skills
  • Physical recreation
  • Global

METHODS:

  • Residential experience
  • Visits
  • Technology
  • Discussion
  • Outdoor activities
  • Games
  • Networking activities

Explorer Scouts have the opportunity to take part in adventurous activities, local conservation projects, creative projects, camps and expeditions, community support…the list is endless!

Explorer Scouts meet together as a Unit, they are primarily Leader led, with as much participation in decision making by young people as possible.

Explorer Scouts wear a khaki colour shirt (blue for Air/Sea Explorers). They also wear a neckerchief (scarf) and a leather woggle (which keeps their scarf together).

By making the promise, an important act in Scouting and common to every section – a young person becomes a member of the worldwide movement:

The Explorer Scout Promise is:

ON MY HONOUR,
I PROMISE THAT I WILL DO MY BEST,
TO DO MY DUTY TO GOD AND TO THE QUEEN,
TO HELP OTHER PEOPLE
AND TO KEEP THE SCOUT LAW.

The Scout Law is:

  • A SCOUT IS TO BE TRUSTED

  • A SCOUT IS LOYAL

  • A SCOUT IS FRIENDLY AND CONSIDERATE

  • A SCOUT BELONGS TO THE WORLDWIDE FAMILY OF SCOUTS

  • A SCOUT HAS COURAGE IN ALL DIFFICULTIES

  • A SCOUT MAKES CAREFUL USE OF TIME AND IS CAREFUL OF POSSESSIONS AND PROPERTY

  • A SCOUT HAS SELF-RESPECT AND RESPECT FOR OTHERS

The Motto for all members of the movement is:

BE PREPARED.
